Women's Equality Day

  • League of Women Voters of Ashland and Bayfield Counties PO Box 175 Ashland, WI 54806 United States (map)

Women's Equality Day is celebrated on August 26 to commemorate the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920. The 19th Amendment prohibits the federal government or any state government from denying the right to vote to any citizen on the basis of one’s sex.

The theme for 2024 is: “Equality Starts with Empowered Women.” This topic highlights the importance of fostering wellbeing and resilience of women in the workplace and within society. Women’s Equality Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the progress towards eliminating gender-based barriers.
