This topic has a direct connection with Econ equity, civic engagement, diversity/inclusion.  A study group of interested community members could be formed to further investigate – comparing the schools in our counties, inquire of the private schools as to their stats, come up with suggestions that would be specific to our region and its challenges, and or provide community education.

Also, a number of our districts (Mellen / Ashland) may be going to referendum as budgets are inadequate. Bringing this issue to the public table may help districts pass referendums if voters see the local impacts. A training from the Wisconsin Public Education Network is being held Thursday, January 11, from 6:30-8pm via Zoom. A free workshop with public school champions: REFERENDA BASICS: BUILDING A WINNING TEAM TO SUPPORT LOCAL SCHOOLS.

The first step in finding public school champions where you live is often by reaching out to assemble a strong referendum team — and that team can be crucial in passing referenda and ensuring that local schools have what they need for teachers to teach and kids to learn. This session will focus on the resources and strategies available to you as you put that team together and make sure all the key players in your local community are involved when it matters most.
