My Fellow Wisconsinites,
On behalf of all Wisconsinites, I hope this message finds you safe and healthy.
I would like to invite you to view my 2021-23 Biennial Budget Address tomorrow, Tuesday, February 16th, at 7:00 p.m. CT. As previously announced, the address will be virtual this year instead of in-person, and will be streamed on both my Facebook page and YouTube channel.
My first biennial budget made a down payment on several areas of critical importance: from working to fully fund our public schools, expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare, and fixing our roads and infrastructure. My second state biennial budget builds upon this foundation and, on the heels of a global pandemic, aims to ensure our state’s economic recovery so that Wisconsin can bounce back from this crisis. Just like with the last budget, we went directly to the people of our state and hosted multiple budget listening sessions, virtually this time. These sessions again provided thousands of individuals the opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns directly with our team. Amidst the wide array of responses, consistent themes emerged in conversations with Wisconsinites, no matter their partisan affiliation or in which corner of the state they live: reforming our justice system; expanding broadband and access to high-speed internet; making healthcare more affordable and accessible; funding our public schools from early childhood to our university and technical college systems; investing in our small businesses to support recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic; supporting our farmers, agricultural industries, and rural communities; and conserving our public lands, air, and water for our kids and their kids after them.
We listened to and took to heart the voices and pleas from the people of Wisconsin who attended the listening sessions and the many who contact our office each day. Over the past few weeks, we have released previews of our 2021-23 biennial budget that reflect many of these concerns, from increased funding for childcare and caregiving, to more than $150 million to increase access to health care and more fully fund mental health support, and to the continuation of our historic investment in our farmers and Wisconsin’s agriculture industry. But we have so much more to show you, and I look forward to sharing the rest of our budget proposal with you tomorrow.
I hope you will be able to tune in and join us as we continue working to move our state forward, together.
Sincerely,
Tony Evers
